In 2019, Apple released AirPods Pro, wireless earbuds featuring active noise-cancelation, water resistance, and improved sound quality. The debut was a success, with over 60 million units sold in the first year!
Whether you’ve just unwrapped your AirPods Pro or have owned them for some time, it can be frustrating when you experience AirPods Pro issues.

Issue 1: Can’t Pair AirPods With iPhone
If your new AirPods aren’t pairing to your iPhone, you should first make sure that your software is up to date. Go to the settings app on your phone, tap ‘general,’ and then ‘software update.’ If there’s an option to update your iPhone, go ahead and do that now.
If that doesn’t fix your pairing problems, place your AirPods back in the charging case for about 10 seconds. Then, disable your Bluetooth and turn it on again. Finally, put your Airpods back in your ears.
Issue 2: AirPod Functions Aren’t Working
Tapping motions controlled the features on the original AirPod models. However, AirPod Pro models need to be pressed and held down instead of tapped.
Here’s how to use the AirPod sensors:
- Press the sensor once to play or pause audio or to answer an incoming call
- Press twice to skip tracks
- Press and hold the sensor to switch from Active Noise Cancellation to Transparency mode
If you are using the sensors correctly but your AirPods are not responding, it is best to contact Apple Support. The technicians can ensure that your AirPods are not defective or broken.
Issue 3: AirPods Won’t Work With My Computer
You likely won’t have this issue if you have a newer Mac model, but it is common with older Macs or Windows computers.
First, you should turn the Bluetooth on your computer off and back on while the Airpods are in the case. Then try to pair your Airpods with the computer again.
If that doesn’t work, ensure that your AirPods are not pairing with any of your other devices. You can do this by simply disabling Bluetooth on your phone or tablet.

- Open an app such as Spotify or iTunes on your computer and play some music
- Place your AirPods in the case with the lid closed
- Make sure your AirPods are paired with your computer
- Remove the AirPods and place them in your ears

Issue 4: Phone Calls Drop or Microphone Issues With Airpods
Some people report their AirPods dropping calls, but you can often resolve this using just one AirPod when talking on the phone.
If you have an iPhone, check the settings for your AirPods since that may be the problem. Here you can see whether you are using the left or right Airpod microphone during calls.
Some people also notice a difference when they disable Automatic Ear Detection. However, doing so will make your battery die faster.
Issue 5: AirPods Won’t Charge
If your AirPods are older or you haven’t cleaned them for a while, there is probably some dust and grime preventing them from charging.
The best way to clean AirPods is with a soft cloth and a cotton swab. Gently clean the case inside and out, as well as the AirPods. Doing this should allow your AirPods to charge.
If they still won’t charge, try using a different cable or charging them wirelessly. However, you should contact Apple Support if they still don’t charge up, as they can repair or replace broken AirPods.
Issue 6: AirPods Don’t Charge Wirelessly
Your AirPods Pro can charge on a wireless charging pad. If they won’t, ensure that you are using a Qi charger and that your Airpods are placed with the indicator light facing up.
If your AirPods aren’t charging, move them around and see if the indicator light turns on. Then, check to see if your Airpods charge with a cable. If they do, the charging pad is likely at fault.
Keep in mind that the indicator light won’t stay on the whole time the Airpods are charging. Rather, the case will only remain lit for a few seconds when charging is initiated.
To check whether your AirPods are charging on the wireless pad, double-tap the front of the case. If the light flashes green, it is still charging. Meanwhile, an amber light means that the AirPods are fully charged.
Resetting Your AirPods Pro
If you are stilling having trouble, the best bet is to reset your AirPods. This process is simple and forces your earbuds to forget any paired devices.
Here’s what you should do to reset AirPods:
- Place both earbuds in the charging case
- Make sure the AirPods case has some battery
- Find the button on the backside of the case and hold it for 15 seconds
While you’re holding the button, keep an eye on the indicator light on the front of the case. It will flash white and then turn to amber. This amber light indicates that the AirPods are successfully reset.
Resetting your AirPods Pro is the best way to fix any reoccurring issues that you encounter.
